In the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Coimbatore recorded a total of 529.50 mm rain, and the average rainfall stood at 44.12 mm. Rainfall (in mm): Valparai region recorded heavy rainfall with Chincona registering 115, Chinnakallar 156, Valparai PAP 83, Valparai Taluk 85, Pollachi 19, TNAU 13.4, Airport Peelamedu 15.9, Coimbatore South and Mettuppalayam recorded 13 mm each, Annur 2, Periyanaickenpalayam 6 and Sulur 8.2. Surplus water continued to flow out of the Siruvani reservoir, and the storage in the Pilloor reservoir was 97 ft as against the full reservoir level of 100 ft. The inflow was 14,389 cusecs. The district administration has already sounded a flood alert along the banks of River Bhavani, as rain continued in both the upper and lower reaches of the Nilgiris. With torrential rain in Valparai region and in the catchments of the Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) reservoirs, Sholayar surplussed its FRL of 160 ft. The inflow into the reservoir stood at 10,584.38 cusecs and the discharge was 11,377 cusecs. The rainfall at Sholayar was 95 mm. The storage in the Parambikulam reservoir was rising steadily. It was was 54.80 ft, as against the FRL of 72 ft. The inflow was 11,805 cusecs and the discharge was 755 cusecs. The reservoir and catchment recorded 66 mm rain. In the plains, the Aliyar reservoir had a storage of 103.50 ft as against the FRL of 120 ft. The inflow was at 3,990 cusecs and the discharge 34 cusecs. The reservoir had 8 mm rain. Following reports of a minor breach in the Contour Canal and an air valve leak near Sircarpathy, the Water Resource Organisation of the Public Works Department has begun the work to plug the leakage. In Tirupur district, the dams that came under PAP also witnessed a steady increase in storage. The Tirumurthy reservoir had 37.18 ft of water, as against the FRL of 60 ft. The inflow was 1,101 cusecs and the discharge 28 cusecs. The rainfall was 5 mm. Amaravathy reservoir had a storage of 86.19 ft (FRL 90 ft). The inflow was 6,146 cusecs and the discharge 2,952 cusecs. Rainfall in hilly regions (in mm): Valparai 83, Upper Nirar 156, Lower Nirar 105, Kadamparai 30, Sircarpathy 30, Vettaikaranpudur 20.8, Manacadavu 54.2, Thoonacadavu 29, Peruvaripallam 7, Upper Aliyar 5, Navamalai 8, Nallaru 20, Negamam 11 and Sultanpet 12. The Nilgiris recorded 678.20 mm rain (average rainfall was 39.89 mm). Upper Bhavani recorded 165 mm and Avalanche 161 mm. The lowest of 9 mm was recorded at Kinnakorai.
