Coimbatore: Municipal administration minister SP Velumani on Sunday inspected the Race Course Road, which will be turned into a model road under the smart city project.The work will begin within a couple of months at a cost of Rs 83 crore, Velumani said. The road modernisation project will meet international standards,” the minister said and directed city corporation officials to finish the project within the stipulated time.Meanwhile, corporation officials said they will soon submit the re-designed proposal to the high-power committee for approval. “Separate gyms will be set up for men and women along the road. The Central government will allot half of the fund,” he said.The project will include modern features suggested by the public, the minister said. A 1.5-metre bicycle track will be set up parallel to the road.
