Work to develop Race Course Road to begin soon: Velumani

Work to develop the Race Course Road as a model road with a host of amenities will begin soon, Municipal Administration Minister S.P. The Race Course Road development project was a part of that and one that would immensely benefit the public. The State Government had taken up Smart Cities Mission projects in 11 of the 12 cities that the Central Government had selected under the mission. Addressing reporters after visiting Race Course on Sunday morning, he said the Coimbatore Corporation under the Smart Cities Mission would develop the road at ?83 crore, of which 50 per cent would be Central Government’s contribution. A release quoting the Minister said that he studied the sketch prepared as part of the detailed project report and told the reporters that the corporation would soon begin the work.

The work the corporation would take up included widening the walkers’ path, laying a new walkers’ path, bicycle track, constructing modern toilets, open gyms, children’s play area, and taking underground the utility lines and telephone and internet cables. The works would also include constructing rainwater harvesting structures. developing traffic junctions so as to prevent accidents, installing closed circuit television cameras and regulating parking. A release quoting the Minister said that he studied the sketch prepared as part of the detailed project report and told the reporters that the corporation would soon begin the work. The State Government had taken up Smart Cities Mission projects in 11 of the 12 cities that the Central Government had selected under the mission. As part of the mission projects in Coimbatore, the corporation had taken up development of water bodies. The Race Course Road development project was a part of that and one that would immensely benefit the public. District Collector T.N. Hariharan, Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan, Members of Legislative Assembly P.R.G. Arunkumar, and ‘Amman’ K. Arjunan, Deputy Commissioner P. Gandhimathi and Executive Engineers A. Lakshmanan and T. Gnanavel were present, the release added.
