100-year-old tree collapses on cattle shed

SathyamoorthyAn 100-year-old tree collapsed inside the Government Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam in the early hours of Saturday. The tree was axed and removed from the spot. The tree and the carcass was removed with the help of the Udhagamandalam Municipal Corporation and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel, said Joint Director of Horticulture (in charge) Shivasubramaniam Samraj.

The tree and the carcass was removed with the help of the Udhagamandalam Municipal Corporation and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel, said Joint Director of Horticulture (in charge) Shivasubramaniam Samraj. The tree was axed and removed from the spot. It would be auctioned as per the government guidelines. Mr. Shivasubramaniam said that the department would take stock of old and withered trees inside the garden posing danger to the visitors and employees from Monday with the consultation of the forest and revenue department.
