Relief materials pour in for flood-hit Kerala

Relief materials worth ? 2 crore were sent to the flood-hit Kerala from here on Saturday. Relief materials such as rice, Dal, milk powder, sugar, salt and bread were collected by the department of rural development, Corporations from Coimbatore, Namakkal, Tiruchi, Tirupur, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Madurai and Thoothukudi.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development S.P. Velumni flagged off the relief trucks in the presence of Deputy Speaker of State Assembly Pollachi V. Jayaraman. Mr. Valumani said that the State Government had already donated ? 5 crore to the Kerala State Disaster Relief Fund. Relief materials such as rice, Dal, milk powder, sugar, salt and bread were collected by the department of rural development, Corporations from Coimbatore, Namakkal, Tiruchi, Tirupur, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri, Villupuram, Madurai and Thoothukudi. Besides the essentials commodities, basic medicines to contain water-borne diseases were sent to the worst affected Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Ernakulam districts. Apart from this, the State Government has organised medical screening camps in the areas closer to the state border. Appeal for relief Coimbatore Emergency Response Team, a non-profit organisation, has appealed to the people and institutions to offer their support and extend monetary and materials for the cause.
