Chief conservator of forests inspects reserve forest areas

When it comes to tree cuttings in reserve forest areas, forest officials will take a decision.Srivastava said, “The assessment and stock of the trees felled will be examined and a report will be prepared by Thursday. If logs are found missing, action will be taken.” Udhagamandalam: Chief conservator of forests (Coimbatore circle) Deepak Srivastava on Monday inspected Forest Gate, Arambi and Butfire reserve forest areas in the district where 25 eucalyptus trees were cut without permission on September 7.Speaking to TOI, Srivastava said, “A committee will be set up soon in the Nilgiris to peruse and take a decision on the trees, located in the peripherals of reserve forest areas, which are considered dangerous to the public.”The committee will comprise a revenue official, a representative from the public besides forest officials.A district committee headed by the collector is already in place in the Nilgiris in connection with tree cuttings in private lands under Tamil Nadu Preservation of Private Forest (TNPPF) Act.
