Frequent power cuts during the last few days have led to fear among industries of load shedding again. So, if there is load shedding we will be hit hard,” said an engineering goods exporter. However, this varied in each region and there was no official note of load shedding, said a HT consumer. Wind energy producers point out that dip in wind production is not unusual and it happens almost every season. An official of Tangedco said the HT industries were requested to switch to generator sets during specific hours two days ago.

more-in Frequent power cuts during the last few days have led to fear among industries of load shedding again. “We are in a position where only big industries can afford to use diesel-run generator sets. So, if there is load shedding we will be hit hard,” said an engineering goods exporter. On Tuesday, micro industries located on Thadagam Road, Ganapathy, and Peelamedu areas in the city faced two to three hours of power cut. On Wednesday morning, in some areas there was no power for about half-an-hour. “We need to wait and watch the situation,” said a micro enterprise owner. For high tension consumers, there were requests by Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) officials to use generator sets during the evening hours and there were instances of disruption in power supply. However, this varied in each region and there was no official note of load shedding, said a HT consumer. An official of Tangedco said the HT industries were requested to switch to generator sets during specific hours two days ago. There was no such request on Tuesday or Wednesday. These requests are made only when there is a need. There are no power cuts since Wednesday morning for any industrial or other consumers. Wind energy generation had dropped drastically and is expected to revive only on Saturday, the official said. Wind energy producers point out that dip in wind production is not unusual and it happens almost every season. On Tuesday and Wednesday, wind energy production dropped. It is expected to revive from September 14. The wind energy producers give a seven-day forecast to Tangedco regularly, they say.
