Members of Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam at the Coimbatore Collectorate to hand over petition to the district administration on Monday. more-in The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam has urged the district administration to prevent exploitation of natural resources from the water bodies. In a petition submitted to District Collector at the grievances’ day programme here on Monday, its president, Su. Palanisamy alleged that anti-social elements were indulging in illegal sand, gravel and red sand mining from the water bodies. This had resulted in loss of revenue to the government. The petition pointed out that illegal mining of river sand, gravel and red sand continued in Sulur taluk, Periyanaikkenpalayam, Mettupalayam, Perur taluk, Kinathukadavu and Mangarai, Kovilpalayam, Sanganur Pallam, Veerapandi, Pollachi, Puliampatti, Thirumalayampalayam, Puravipalayam, Vadakkipalayam and Madukkarai areas. A monitoring committee consisting of officials from revenue, police and representatives from farmers association should be establish to check illegal sand mining, he added. OHT posing danger A dilapidated Over Head Tank (OHT) at Nagarajapuram near Tamil Nadu Agriculture University have been posing danger to the public for the last seven years, said Jagannathan, a resident, here on Monday. Action sought against NIA officials The National Investigation Agency is torturing in the name of inquiry in connection with a murder that took place on September 22, 2016 at Thudiaylur, a group of families alleged here on Monday. The Muslim women and children of nine families urged the administration to end the ‘torture’ in the name of inquiry in spite of their cooperation. They alleged that the investigations affected their normal livelihood. They sought action against the NIA officials who are responsible for this. Residents demand potable water Residents of Paruthikkattupalayam near Tirupur urged the district administration to provide potable water, as they were denied drinking water for the last one month due to the damage of Bhavani Comprehensive Drinking Water scheme, they said. Iron ore industry opposed Residents of Kunnathur Chettikuttai in Uthukuli alleged that a private company is planning to set up an iron ore factory at Melavalavu village. If the company is set up, the nearby villages would be affected with pollution and also fear that the ground water get contaminated. Patta to residents Residents of Pattukottaiyar Nagar along with the Tirupur South MLA S. Gunasekaran submitted a memorandum to District Collector demanding patta to those living over 30 years.
