Coimbatore: Now, city police personnel will have a unique opportunity to get their grievances addressed. And the credit goes to the city police commissioner, K Periaiah, who has come up with the idea of police grievance petition to ensure their welfare and well-being. In a first step, more than 3,000 grievance petition forms have been printed and distributed to all the 33 police stations in the city.Police personnel, who are having grievances, are advised to fill in the petition forms and submit them to the camp clerk to the commissioner of police. The grievances will be redressed within three days. Copy of the grievance petition reply, along with what type of action was taken on the grievances, would be sent to the police personnel.Periaiah had earlier announced that the city police personnel could meet him every Friday from 10am to 1pm and submit their grievance petitions in person. Now, he has launched a new scheme and cops needn’t meet him in person. Instead, they could submit the police grievance petitions to the camp clerk of the CoP from Monday to Saturday.“The police grievance petitions will be sent to the respective departments and concerned police officials will take action on them within three days. They will send copy of the reply, along with details of type of action taken on their grievances, to the petitioners. We are launching the system for police welfare,” Periaiah said.Pointing out that police personnel might have problems related to provident fund, promotion and transfer, among other things, the city police commissioner said they could write their grievances on the grievance column and submit to the camp clerk immediately.A source said the petition forms were also kept at the office of the armed reserve police as more than 1,000 armed police personnel were attached to the city police. “They can also send their grievances to the police commissioner.”Periaiah said there were more than 2,000 police personnel in the city. “All of them have a lot of work related and personal problems. Their problems should reach us. Only then we can redress their grievances immediately. I hope this system will help the police personnel to find a solution to their problems.”
