Six men arrested for stealing cameras from reserve forest

Coimbatore: Six men have been arrested for stealing three automatic cameras fitted in Odanthurai Reserve Forest between July and August. The forest department is in search for six more people in connection with the incident.The arrested men were involved in deer poaching and removed the cameras to ensure they do not get caught, department sources said.The Sirumugai forest beat launched an investigation when they stopped receiving feed from the cameras in July. “After a month of inquiries and investigations, we caught a few people involved in removing the cameras and based on their confessions, found the cameras that they had hidden. They will be remanded in judicial custody,” Manoharan added. “Foresters, who reached the spots where the cameras were fixed, found two of them missing from Wader Colony and one from Aalur area,” Sirumugai forest ranger EN Manoharan told TOI.When the loss was reported, chief conservator of forests Deepak Shrivastava ordered an investigation into the incident.
