Coimbatore: K Boopathi, a warden with the Coimbatore Central Prison , was suspended from the service for three months on Wednesday after a first information report (FIR) was registered in connection with dowry harassment.Boopathi’s mother-in-law R Parvathi, a resident of Salem, had filed a complaint against him with the Race Course police and the social welfare department on Sunday. The 40-year-old man had been harassing her daughter B Sudha, 34, demanding 15 sovereigns of gold and money to buy a two-wheeler, Parvathi said in the complaint. The couple was married a decade ago.Though an FIR was registered against Boopathi at the All Women Police Station (AWPS) in Salem, it was withdrawn after he pleaded with Sudha’s parents. After the incident, Sudha permanently moved in with her parents along with her daughter. When she could not afford to pay her daughter’s school fees, Sudha filed a petition before the Salem mahila court in 2017 seeking alimony. The petition was withdrawn in May after Boopathi assured to take care of his daughter and wife.However, months after living together, Boopathi along with his family, again started to harass Sudha, who was pregnant, demanding dowry, Parvathi said. Based on her complaint, Race Course police had filed a case under Section 498 (A) (dowry harassment).
