Man who stole Rs 2 lakh from employer held

Tirupur: A 25-year-old man was arrested on Friday for stealing Rs 2 lakh from a knitwear unit, where he was employed, in the city. Police have also recovered from him Rs 1.9 lakh.The arrested was identified as M Selvaraj, of Andipatti in Theni district. Police arrested him based on his confessional statement and recovered Rs 1.9 lakh from him.Selvaraj was produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody. “Unit owner M Yuvaraj, of Kodikambam, had gone on a pilgrimage to the Shirdi Sai Baba temple in Maharashtra on September 8. When he returned after four days, he found that Rs 2 lakh was missing from his table drawer in the unit.”Yuvaraj subsequently lodged a complaint with the Tirupur north police, who registered a case and launched a probe.

Police said he had migrated to the dollar city for job and was residing at Papanaickenpalayam.Selvaraj, an investigation officer said, was employed as a tailor with a knitwear unit at NRK Puram. “Unit owner M Yuvaraj, of Kodikambam, had gone on a pilgrimage to the Shirdi Sai Baba temple in Maharashtra on September 8. When he returned after four days, he found that Rs 2 lakh was missing from his table drawer in the unit.”Yuvaraj subsequently lodged a complaint with the Tirupur north police, who registered a case and launched a probe. “Yuvaraj had provided us a list of suspects,” the officer said.As part of investigation, police picked up Selvaraj and during interrogation he confessed to the crime. Police arrested him based on his confessional statement and recovered Rs 1.9 lakh from him.Selvaraj was produced before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody. He was later lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison.
