The Federation of Farmers’ Associations has opposed the proposed Coimbatore-Karur six-lane green corridor project. And, as the L&T Bypass Road connected to the road, it would be all the more beneficial. The Central and State governments had proposed a new green corridor between the two cities and also a eastern bypass near Coimbatore at ? 2,400 crore. To implement the project, the State Government would have to acquire nearly 3,000 acre cultivable lands, resulting in farmers losing their livelihood. Details sought on deceasedK. In its petition, submitted to the district administration at the weekly grievance meeting on Monday, the Federation said that widening of the existing Coimbatore-Karur Road (National Highway 81) would be cost effective, lead to protection of farm lands and 53 km shorter than the proposed road. The Central and State governments had proposed a new green corridor between the two cities and also a eastern bypass near Coimbatore at ? 2,400 crore. To implement the project, the State Government would have to acquire nearly 3,000 acre cultivable lands, resulting in farmers losing their livelihood. The proposed eastern bypass was just north of the Palladam-Kochi Road (SH 163). The expansion of the latter to accommodate increased traffic would help save farm lands. And, as the L&T Bypass Road connected to the road, it would be all the more beneficial. The Federation also suggested expansion of the Karumathampatty-Kittampalayam Road and the Keeranatham Road connecting Sathyamangalam Road with Mettupalayam Road would help reduce traffic in the city. Re-introduce bus service Residents and commuters from Uppilipalayam, Sowripalayam, Varadharajapuram, Edayarpalayam and Irugur have urged the district administration to re-introduce bus service on route 114, which had been stopped a couple of weeks ago citing poor patronage by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation. Details sought on deceased K. Chinnappan, a Ganapathi Managar resident, on Monday sought the district administration’s help in gathering details about his brother, M.R. Natarajan, who died in Kuwait in 2016. His brother left Kuwait 30 years ago to work in a catering company and after improving his qualification, worked in an information technology company. Natarajan last visited him in 2015 and he came to know of his death from an acquaintance. Farmers take out rally Farmers supported by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre took out a rally in Tirupur on Monday to draw the State Government’s attention to implement the Anamalaiaru and Nallaru schemes.
