Meme competition to create awareness on HIV/AIDS

Taking awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS to the new age, the Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TNSACS) is conducting a meme competition for the public ahead of the World AIDS Day this year. “The winners of the competition will be given prizes and certificates by TNSACS on World AIDS Day, which is observed on December 1. Officials with the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) in Coimbatore said pamphlets on the meme competition were being circulated among the public and students to make the initiative a success. College students and the public can take part in the contest titled ‘A meme a day’ to be held between October 1 and November 25. The memes should contain messages related to HIV/AIDS awareness, express care and support to Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) and avoid stigma and discrimination towards PLHIV.

Officials with the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) in Coimbatore said pamphlets on the meme competition were being circulated among the public and students to make the initiative a success. “The winners of the competition will be given prizes and certificates by TNSACS on World AIDS Day, which is observed on December 1. Participants can submit any number of memes. However, they should follow templates instructed by TNSACS while creating the memes,” said R.V.M. Kumanan, district programme manager for DAPCU in Coimbatore. Winning memes will be displayed on TNSACS website. The copyright of memes selected for prizes will rest with the TNSACS. The memes should contain messages related to HIV/AIDS awareness, express care and support to Persons Living with HIV (PLHIV) and avoid stigma and discrimination towards PLHIV. While participants are allowed to use cartoons, memes with caricatures were not allowed. The participants were restrained from using pictures of cine actors, political personalities, party flags, their symbols, personally identifiable information, pictures of animals, obscene content, real dialogues from movies and contents copied from other sources. Memes can be emailed to amemeaday.tnsacs@gmail.com. The participants should also include their name, address, mobile number and email id and a photograph along with the entries. College students who take part in the competition should also mention the name of their institution, course of study, names of the programme officer of Red Ribbon Club and the college principal.
