Three die, five hurt as minivan collides with bus

RAMANATHAPURAM: Three people, including two teenagers, died on the spot and five others suffered injuries when a minivan collided with a bus near Sayalkudi in Ramanthapuram district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning. A detailed probe with the bus driver and the accident survivors was underway. They hailed from Bharathi Nagar in Mayakulam near Keelakarai.The injured were R Krishnakumar, 23, R Naveen, 18, S Ubayaganesh, 20, and M Bhuvaneswaran, 16. The deceased were identified as M Arul, 22, U Umayabala, 18, and L Vijayaraj, 18. A police officer said that they are yet to know the cause of the accident.

They have been admitted to a nearby hospital.Bus driver Krishnan, 57, of Idhampadal, who suffered injuries in the accident , was treated in a local hospital.The youths had set out on a trip to Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district to purchase crackers for Diwali. They left on Tuesday evening. After finishing their purchase, they started the return trip early on Wednesday morning.Just 40km short of their home, the van collided headon with a government bus coming from the opposite direction. A police officer said that they are yet to know the cause of the accident. A detailed probe with the bus driver and the accident survivors was underway.
