Govt hospital sets up separate fever, dengue wards to curb flu

This was to ensure that patients, who come with other ailments, also do not get infected with fever.

Even outpatients with fever-related complaints would be taken to the an exclusive ward formed for them and treated.Last week, public health director Dr P Kolandaisamy had issued a circular to all government hospitals and health centres, asking them to set up separate outpatient (OP) centre for fever complaints. This was to ensure that patients, who come with other ailments, also do not get infected with fever. The OP was also to work round-the-clock.On Thursday, CMCH formed separate fever and dengue wards for inpatients and a 24x7 outpatient clinic. “Now, all fever patients will be sent directly to the separate OP for diagnosis. They do not have to take a token and wait with other patients. The move is mainly intended to control the spread of infections,” said a senior doctor.The health department has, meanwhile, again appealed people to seek medical attention if they were suffering from a fever for more than a day accompanied by severe cold and cough.Of the three died, one was due to H1N1 virus. The victim was identified as Muthukumar, 50. While another one, identified as Muthuchamy, a former bank employee from Pudhu Colony, died of viral fever, the third one - a 40-year-old man from Rayarpalayam - died of brain fever.
