Electricity theft: TNEB officials inspect residential complex

Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) officials on Thursday inspected the Parsn Sesh Nestle residential complex following complains of electricity theft. The residential complex is already under scanner for encroachment of OSR land.“The irregularities came to light when corporation officials were inspecting for illegal encroachments on OSR lands. The TNEB has also received two complaints pertaining to unauthorized connections in the apartment,” said sources involved in the inspection. For the second consecutive day, a six-member team from the board has inspected the apartment.Multiple residential connections were utilized for running commercial establishments like shopping complex in the apartment.The commercial establishments have illegally taken residential connections for their car shed, security room, CCTV maintenance room and streetlight, the sources said. It is only at the end of inspection, the exact amount that the apartment needs to pay would be known.

The commercial establishments did not obtain license for running generators as well.“Apart from changing the connections to commercial connections, the officials would, also, be slapping penalty and charging the due amount,” the source said, adding that evident violations were recorded in the apartment.A senior TNEB official said they were yet to complete the inspection. It is only at the end of inspection, the exact amount that the apartment needs to pay would be known. Upon failing to acknowledge their fraudulent activities, a police complaint would be filed against them, the official added.
