Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Junction railway station is likely to get Integrated Management Systems (IMS) certification for the second consecutive year. The two-day inspection which went on through Wednesday and Thursday checked the quality of services provided by the station, the efforts it has taken to reduce usage of water and reduce pollution, and safety standards adopted by the station.Station officials say that though some feedback for correction was given, the certification has been confirmed. The IMS will award the station with ISO 9001, ISO 14,001 and OHSAS 18,001 certificates. “This was a facility we had added, which also improved our safety standards and quality of services,” said the director. While ISO 9001 certification checks the quality of services provided by the station in terms of ticket booking services, parcel offices, parking for two-wheelers and four-wheelers and information cell, the ISO 14001 checks for efforts by the station to reduce pollution and improve energy conservation. “The inspector noticed some spit marks near a seating area for the passengers and told us a few corrections in the public toilets,” said station director Sathish Saravanan.“However, he said considering the footfalls we receive compared to that of the airport, our bathrooms were in a better condition,” he said.In the one-year span between the first time the station was inspected for the certification last year and this week, the station has managed to install new lifts and escalators making the platforms more accessible for senior citizens.
