SUV mows down 2 men on motorcycle

Tirupur: Two 19-year-old men were killed after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) collided with the motorcycle they were travelling on in the city on Saturday.The deceased were identified as P Santhiraswaran and S Yogeshwaran, residents of Sirupooluvapatti. When they reached Sirupooluvapatti-15 on Velampalayam Road, Santhiraswaran, who was riding the motorcycle, attempted to overtake a vehicle. Suddenly, an SUV, which was coming from opposite direction, rammed their vehicle. The incident took place when he was on his way to Pandiyan Nagar bus stop to board a bus to his house. Both of them were thrown off the motorcycle and suffered severe head injuries.The two were immediately taken to the Tirupur government hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

According to a police officer, Yogeshwaran was employed with a knitwear unit, while Santhiraswaran was yet to land a job.The accident took place on Saturday evening when the two friends were heading to a petrol bunk. When they reached Sirupooluvapatti-15 on Velampalayam Road, Santhiraswaran, who was riding the motorcycle, attempted to overtake a vehicle. Suddenly, an SUV, which was coming from opposite direction, rammed their vehicle. Both of them were thrown off the motorcycle and suffered severe head injuries.The two were immediately taken to the Tirupur government hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead. Their bodies were handed over to their families after postmortem. The 15 Velampalayam police registered a case and arrested SUV driver Manikandan of Udumalpet.In another incident, a 35-year-old man was killed when a government bus knocked him down at Pandiyan Nagar in the city on Saturday. The deceased was identified as C Vasudevan, of Gobichettipalayam in Erode district. He was employed with a knitwear unit in the city. The incident took place when he was on his way to Pandiyan Nagar bus stop to board a bus to his house. TNN
