Education dept seeks status of aided schoolteachers

Coimbatore: The school education department has written to the chief education officers of the districts demanding the number of teachers in government-aided schools.The department said the teachers in government-aided schools and the surplus posts should be compiled across the revenue districts. “The teachers should be transferred to other schools where there are requirement and within a week after they are given the transfer orders. The communication said the teacher-student ratio for Classes VI to VIII should be 1:35 and 1:40 for Classes IX and X. “For schools with a student strength up to 1,000 can have one office assistant, an office worker and a security each and part-time sanitary workers.

The communication said the teacher-student ratio for Classes VI to VIII should be 1:35 and 1:40 for Classes IX and X. Against the specified ratios, if there are excess teachers in government-aided schools, they should be transferred to other aided schools in the district. “The teachers should be transferred to other schools where there are requirement and within a week after they are given the transfer orders. If any aided school fails to relieve the teachers, action will be initiated against them.”If the teachers need to be transferred across schools in the same education district, it can be done by district education officers, if within the same revenue district, it can be done by chief education officers and if the schools are in different revenue districts, then the joint director of the department can do the transfer, said the communication.Also, the department has specified the number of non-teaching staff at aided schools. “For schools with a student strength up to 1,000 can have one office assistant, an office worker and a security each and part-time sanitary workers. Schools with a student strength from 1,000 to 1,500 can have two clerks and two office assistants each while schools with more than 1,500 students can have three clerks and three office assistants.”Sources said the measure was to curb inappropriate appointments.
