Coimbatore: A 25-year-old woman attempted to commit suicide by jumping off Gandhipuram flyover in the city on Monday.Nandhini, daughter of Murugan of Mahalingapuram in Pollachi, is in love with Marudhupandian, a vanniyar. While walking on Gandhipuram flyover around 2.30am on Monday, she jumped off the flyover and sustained severe injuries on her spinal cord and both legs. Preliminary inquiry revealed that she was in love with Marudhupandian. She was immediately taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital by motorists who noticed her jumping off the flyover.The Kattoor police reached the spot and held inquiry. A member of SC (arunthathiyar) community, Nandhini is studying MEd in a government college in Coimbatore.Citing mismatch in horoscopes, Nandhini’s family refused to get her married to Marudhupandian.After completing her holidays, Nandhini returned to Coimbatore from Pollachi by bus on Sunday night.
