Coimbatore: A day after police traced the Kalyan Jewellery’s car, which was waylaid by a 10-member gang and robbed of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 98 lakh on Monday, they have found the car used by the gang abandoned near Valukuparai on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.Police said the Alto car was found about 10km away from the jewellery owner’s car, which was found abandoned near Madukkarai on Tuesday. Forensic experts have lifted finger prints from the car.“Even before the car was found, we had traced the registration number of the vehicle with the help of CCTV footages collected from check posts and petrol bunks. The vehicle was registered in Chennai and when we contacted the registered owner, he told us that he had sold the car to a person in Coimbatore long back. However, the ownership of the vehicle remains unchanged,” said an investigation officer. Police are now in the process of tracking the purchaser of the car.“We will crack the case and arrest all the accused soon,” the official said.The incident took place when more than 3kg gold and 200g silver ornaments were being transported from Kalyan Jewellery’s branch in Trissur to Coimbatore on Monday. The gang waylaid the vehicle near KG Chavadi on Cochin-Coimbatore bypass road and looted the ornaments.
