Chinna Thambi menace: Villagers block Udumalpet-Palani highway

TIRUPUR: Around 150 villagers from Krishnapuram in Tirupur district of Tamil Nadu staged a road blockade protest on the Udumalpet-Palani highway for more than an hour on Thursday demanding that forest officials chase away crop-raiding elephant Chinna Thambi that has been roaming in the area for the last three days.The villagers called off their protest after revenue and police officials pacified them saying that the government was taking appropriate steps to “remove” the wild elephant from their area.On Thursday, Chinna Thambi was roaming in a sugarcane field, 3km away from Amaravathi Cooperative Sugar Mills' seed multiplication centre.
