Parcel service employee robbed of Rs 2.75 crore gold

Police have recovered a small pocket knife and footwear from the crime scene.The Peelamedu police said they have conducted inquiry with the victim and his colleagues at the parcel service, besides pressing dog squad into service.“We are in the process of collecting CCTV footages from the parcel service office to the crime spot. We have already collected a few (CCTV footages) and they don’t show anyone following the complainant,” the officer said.A month ago, more than 3kg gold ornaments worth Rs 98 lakh that Kerala-based Kalyan Jewellery was transporting to the city from its branch in Thrissur were robbed near KG Chavadi on the outskirts of the city. The rural police had cracked the case with the arrest of 17 people. Suddenly, one of them knocked him down from the vehicle. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (crime) P Perumal has formed five special teams to crack the case.Prithvi said he couldn’t see the trio’s faces, as they were wearing helmets.

COIMBATORE: A three-member unidentified gang allegedly knocked down a 26-year-old employee of an air parcel service firm from his two-wheeler and made away with 8kg gold ornaments worth Rs 2.75 crore at Peelamedu here on the early hours of Thursday.According to police, the incident occurred when M Prithvi Singh, a native of Rajasthan, was on his way to the airport from his office on Mill Road at 5.30am.“When Prithvi neared Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management on Avinashi Road, he noticed that three bikers were following him. Suddenly, one of them knocked him down from the vehicle. As he lay on road, the trio sprayed chilli powder on him and sped away with the bag containing gold ornaments, which 15 people had entrusted the air parcel firm to be sent to Mumbai,” an investigation officer said quoting the complainant.Prithvi lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police, who registered a case and launched a probe.
