Biz loss: Woman ends life, hubby critical

We suspect the duo took the extreme step after suffering huge losses in business,“ a police officer said.“When the yarn trading business started facing losses two years ago, the couple borrowed some money. They were depositing money in a chit fund hoping that it would help them to return the borrowed money. They used to pay the interest properly and were hoping that the money in the chit fund would help them. But it was not enough and they had to pledge a land to borrow more money.

Tirupur: A 36-year-old woman died and her 45-year-old husband was struggling for life after they consumed poison at Thiruneelakandapuram in Kunnathur on Thursday.Police identified them as Matheswari and her husband B Ravishankaran, who were running a yarn trading shop on 60f Road in the city. “Ravishankaran was managing the business for more than two decades and later, Matheswari joined him after their marriage. The couple has two daughters, both school students. We suspect the duo took the extreme step after suffering huge losses in business,“ a police officer said.“When the yarn trading business started facing losses two years ago, the couple borrowed some money. They were depositing money in a chit fund hoping that it would help them to return the borrowed money. They used to pay the interest properly and were hoping that the money in the chit fund would help them. But it was not enough and they had to pledge a land to borrow more money. As their debt increased, they became depressed. On Wednesday night, they did not sleep and were discussing about the issue. During the wee hours, they consumed poison and told their daughters about it. Though they were rushed to the Tirupur Government Hospital, Matheswari died,” the officer added.After postmortem, Matheswari’s body was handed over to her relatives.The Kunnathur police have registered a case.
