“While two bidders applied to work on Periyakulam, there were no takers for Valankulam and Selvachintamani lake. The Rs 42crore facility will be able to house 370 four-wheelers and is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the city. “It will take time to analyse and plan the works that need to be carried out. In December, it floated tender for the third time for multiple-level car parking facility on DB Road. Corporation officials are still in the process of finalizing the contractor.

Coimbatore: The city corporation has decided to float re-tender for carrying out lake rejuvenation and beautification work at Valankulam and Selvachintamani lake as no company has come forward to carry out the work. The civic body had floated a tender on February 10, inviting companies to execute beautification and restoration works at Periyakulam, Valankulam and Selvachintamani lake at a cost of Rs 152crore.It was up to the contractors to apply to work either on a lake or multiple lakes, a senior corporation official said. “While two bidders applied to work on Periyakulam, there were no takers for Valankulam and Selvachintamani lake. While we are in the process of finalizing the contractor for Periyakulam, we are left with no other option but to float re-tender for the other lakes,” he told TOI.The poor response might be due to lack of sufficient time, another corporation official said. “It will take time to analyse and plan the works that need to be carried out. Each lake project has 800 components such as toilets, benches, non-motorized tracks and micro sewage treatment plants.”The corporation was planning to commence the work in March and as it is struggling to find bidders, the project might be delayed, corporation sources said. It took the civic body six months to received technical clearance for the project, only after reducing cost from Rs 357crore to Rs 152crore.It is the second project the corporation is struggling to find suitable bidders in the recent times. In December, it floated tender for the third time for multiple-level car parking facility on DB Road. The Rs 42crore facility will be able to house 370 four-wheelers and is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the city. Corporation officials are still in the process of finalizing the contractor.
