Engineering student on bike hit by speeding car, injured

Coimbatore: A 24-year-old engineering student has been hospitalised after the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a car driven by a 21-year-old girl student on Wednesday evening.K Balaji, a native of Thanjavur and a final year PG student in a government-aided engineering college on Avinashi Road, had stopped the two-wheeler near Codissia seeing the speeding car, police sources said. “But Dharshana Ruth from SIDCO near Sundarapuram, a II-year Master of International Business student in a private college on Avinashi Road, who was behind the wheel, could not stop it. Balaji was thrown off from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries,” a police officer said.Instead of stopping the vehicle and helping the injured man, Dharshana sped away from the spot. “She was on the way to a mall along with a friend when the accident happened,” the officer added.Balaji was undergoing treatment in a private hospital. But the incident was recorded in a CCTV surveillance system in the area,” the officer told TOI.The traffic investigation wing east police traced the registration number of the car and interrogated Dharshana.

But the incident was recorded in a CCTV surveillance system in the area,” the officer told TOI.The traffic investigation wing east police traced the registration number of the car and interrogated Dharshana. “She was on the way to a mall along with a friend when the accident happened,” the officer added.Balaji was undergoing treatment in a private hospital. Doctors said his condition was stable.TIW police have registered a case against the girl under sections 279, 338 of the Indian Penal Code and section187 of motor vehicle act.
