Coimbatore: Pollachi traders downed shutters on Tuesday in response to the one-day bandh called by the DMK and alliance parties, various organizations and trade unions to condemn the sexual assault on college girls and women and demand a speedy probe.Most of the bakeries, jewellery shops, hotels, vegetable shops and fish stalls remained closed from 6am to 6pm. As a result, vegetable supply to Kerala also came to a standstill. Most of the roads wore a deserted look as passenger autorickshaw associations and truck owners’ associations extended their supports to the bandh. More than 500 police personnel were deployed in Pollachi to prevent any untoward incident.Meanwhile, members of All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) lodged a complaint with the CB-CID police, urging them to arrest people, who were having nexus with the accused. AIDWA district secretary A Radhika handed over the petition to the CB-CID superintendent of police Nisha Parthiban at her office. The AIDWA said based on the four videos that were released on social media, police should register new first information report (FIR) and take the accused in custody again.In another instance, more than 50 women lawyers staged a protest infront of the integrated court complex on Arts College Road, demanding that HC-monitored CBI probe into the Pollachi sexual harassment case. tnn
