Woman murders 72-yr-old, loots jewels

Coimbatore: A 72-year-old woman was found dead with her throat slit at Annai Velankanni Nagar, Sowripalayam, in the city on Monday night. However, she didn’t return.When her husband went to the house to check on her, he found Mary lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. The Peelamedu (crime) police have registered a case and further investigation is on. He immediately alerted the Peelamedu (crime) police, who rushed to the spot.Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (crime) P Perumal formed three special teams to nab the murderers. Her gold jewellery and mobile phone were missing.

The woman’s five-sovereign gold chain, pair of earrings and a mobile phone were missing.A retired government staff nurse, Mary Angeline was wife of Vijay Anandan, 85, of Annai Velankanni Nagar, Sowripalayam.On Monday around 9.30pm, a 30-year-old woman approached Mary on the pretext of seeing a house which Mary’s family wanted to let out on rent.While her husband was at the house, Mary went with the woman for the walk-through of the house. However, she didn’t return.When her husband went to the house to check on her, he found Mary lying in a pool of blood with her throat slit. Her gold jewellery and mobile phone were missing. He immediately alerted the Peelamedu (crime) police, who rushed to the spot.Meanwhile, deputy commissioner of police (crime) P Perumal formed three special teams to nab the murderers. Mary’s body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem on Monday night and was handed over to her family on Tuesday.Further, the murderers threw sniffer dogs off their trails by smearing chilli powder at the crime scene.Preliminary inquiries revealed that two days back, a couple had visited Sowripalayam on the pretext of searching rental houses. Police suspected the couple’s involvement in the case. The Peelamedu (crime) police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
