TIRUPUR: A 24-year-old construction worker drowned in a water-filled stone quarry pit near Mangalam in Tirupur district on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as M Kumar of Itthikuttai . When his relatives and neighbours searched for him, they noticed his slippers floating on water in an abandoned stone quarry in the same locality.Later the body of Kumar was fished out. He earlier worked as a construction worker but was not attending to the work regularly. It is to be noted that a few years ago, Kumar's mother also drowned in the same pit.Mangalam police has sent the body to Tirupur government hospital for postmortem and registered the case. On Tuesday morning, he was found missing.
