K Shanmugasundaram, DMK’s Pollachi candidate, files papers

Coimbatore: DMK candidate for Pollachi parliament constituency K Shanmugasundaram filed his nomination papers at the sub-collector’s office on Friday. CPM candidate P R Natarajan and BJP candidate C P Radhakrishnan are, meanwhile, expected to file their papers for Coimbatore constituency on March 25. His wife K Vanitha, 44, a homemaker, has filed nomination as the party’s substitute candidate for the constituency.In his affidavit, the candidate said his family has movable assets worth Rs 3.04 crore. I will also take steps to increase tea estate workers’ wages, besides pitching for a special court to conduct trail on the sexual harassment case.”Shanmugasundaram had in 2009 contested from Pollachi but lost to the AIADMK candidate K Sugumar. Fielded against him is the AIADMK’s sitting MP C Mahendran, who is likely to file papers on Monday Shanmugasundaram, 44, of Samarayapatti in Madathukulam in Tirupur, has filed a total of four nomination papers and if one were to be rejected for some reason, election officials could consider the remaining.

Fielded against him is the AIADMK’s sitting MP C Mahendran, who is likely to file papers on Monday Shanmugasundaram, 44, of Samarayapatti in Madathukulam in Tirupur, has filed a total of four nomination papers and if one were to be rejected for some reason, election officials could consider the remaining. His wife K Vanitha, 44, a homemaker, has filed nomination as the party’s substitute candidate for the constituency.In his affidavit, the candidate said his family has movable assets worth Rs 3.04 crore. It said he has Rs 5.21 lakh cash in hand, 50% shares in Anusam Knitters Pvt Ltd, 50% shares in Southern Star Coir Products Pvt Ltd and 332g of gold ornaments. As per the affidavit, his wife has Rs 4.05 lakh cash in hand, 1kg and 120g of gold ornaments and 7,250g of silver articles.Shanmugasundaram told the media that he would take steps to implement the long-pending Anaimalai-Nallaru project and to provide train facilities to various parts of the country from Pollachi. “More trains will be operated between Palani and Coimbatore. I will also take steps to increase tea estate workers’ wages, besides pitching for a special court to conduct trail on the sexual harassment case.”Shanmugasundaram had in 2009 contested from Pollachi but lost to the AIADMK candidate K Sugumar. He was not given the party ticket in the 2014 general elections when the party fielded former minister Pongalur N Palanisamy, who lost to the AIADMK’s C Mahendran.In another instance, G Balaji, 32, of Valparai, filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Pollachi constituency on Friday. CPM candidate P R Natarajan and BJP candidate C P Radhakrishnan are, meanwhile, expected to file their papers for Coimbatore constituency on March 25.
