IAF chopper helps put out raging dump yard blaze

The fire was put out after a 40-hour struggle.Fire was seen at the dump yard on Saturday. The corporation should initiate work to reduce the quantity of wastes dumped at the yard, he added. Several earthmovers, fire tenders, water lorries (both corporation and private) and a douser were used to put out the fire.The fire had spread to over 80 acres of the 650-acre dump yard. Coimbatore: For the first time , the district administration has sought assistance from the Indian Air Force (IAF) to engage a helicopter to prevent the spread of fire to contiguous areas in the Vellalore dump yard that is maintained by the city corporation. After surveying the area, aerial spraying of water using bambi buckets of the helicopters was done,” said a press release from IAF.
