The condition of those suffering from respiratory diseases has become worse.“It has become a yearly ritual for those who live around the Vellalore dump yard.
The dump yard came up in 2003.
Why should we suffocate all the time either because of smoke or of foul smell,” asked a resident of Podanur. When they built their houses about 30 years ago the dump yard was a vacant land.
They are avoiding stepping out of their houses in the past two days and keep all doors and windows shut.
It is only then that we stepped out of our house to check the source and noticed the massive fire at the dump yard,” said resident of Nethaji Nagar. She said the smoke was so thick that it hurt their eyes, affecting their vision.
