Coimbatore: The election commission is biased towards BJP and AIADMK candidates, CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan said here on Tuesday.“While the candidates from the two parties violated the code of conduct when they filed nominations, EC did not take action and has not heeded to written complaints,” the Left leader told reporters. “The candidates had worn their party badges when they filed nominations. Won’t these people, who violated the norms before the election officials, do so elsewhere?”“Truckloads of people are brought to the meetings attended by the chief minister. An RDO in Kanchipuram district, who is functioning as an election official, has close relatives in the ruling party. How can we expect the official to act fair? Police officers and government officials, who have been working for a long time in a constituency, should be transferred to check favouritism. We will prepare a detailed complaint and submit it to the election commission on Wednesday,” Balakrishnan said.Byelection has been announced for 18 assembly constituencies out of the 21 vacant constituencies because if AIADMK loses in all the 21 constituencies, it would lose power, the CPM leader said.The demonetisation drive did not curb black money, but rather affected micro and small businesses, powerloom and knitwear sectors, he said.
