COIMBATORE: Failing to make any headway in the case of rape and murder of the minor girl, whose body was found near her house at Pannimadai on Tuesday, the rural police have announced a reward for those who provide information about the incident.Police teams on Thursday distributed handbills in several places that said that those who provided information regarding the case would be rewarded and their identity would be kept secret.After the girl’s mother expressed suspicion about the involvement of a neighbour, a goods autorickshaw driver, in the crime, Thudiyalur police questioned the man. “He said he was drinking with friends and playing cricket. We verified the tower location details of his mobile phone and could not find any evidence of his involvement in the murder,” a police officer said.Meanwhile, police have picked up five more people, including a school student and the girl’s grandfather, for questioning. Police superintendent R Pandiarajan and deputy superintendent Mani are interrogating them.The case has been transferred to the All Women police, Thudiyalur from Thadagam police station. Police have registered a case under sections 302, 376 (A) of Indian Penal Code and sections 5 (I), 5 (m) read with 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.
