Rs 5lakh, 15kg gutka, 2 air guns seized

Coimbatore: Election commission officials seized 15kg gutka from a trader and Rs 5lakh and two air rifles from a vehicle on Thursday.The Coimbatore south constituency flying squad, which stopped a car at Gandhipuram around 5am, found 15kg gutka. “They claimed they were from Ganapathy and were on the way to Iruttu Pallam to fill an ATM. “The carrier identified himself as Harish from Thrissur in Kerala, a trader. He said he had bought it from a trader on Thomas Street,” an official said.The seized gutka was handed over to the food safety department.The static surveillance team on Thondamuthur Road in Vadavalli stopped a vehicle driving through Lakshmi Nagar early in the morning and seized currency notes worth Rs 5lakh and two air rifles transported by five people. But they had no documents for the cash or the rifles,” said an official, who identified the people as Ponnusamy of Ramanathapuram, Sawadhi Khan from Jammu and Kashmir, Gangadharan, Udhayakumar and van driver Nagaraj.The cash was handed over to the treasury department.
