COIMBATORE: Expressing anguish over the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl at Kasthurinaickenpudur near here, Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan said if children weren't able to play even within 20ft of their home, it did not augur well for the state."This has to change. We have to treat all children as ours. Only then such incidents won't happen," he said. Kamal visited Kasthurinaickenpudur near Pannimadai on Friday and met the parents of the victim who was raped and murdered by unknown persons.Addressing the media, he said the parents felt they did not get justice for the horror perpetrated on their daughter. They thought the police probe is proceeding at a snail's pace. "I believe police will do their duty," he said."I don't want to accuse police. But they have to speed up the investigation. This is important than general election," said Kamal. He said he asked for an appointment to meet the Inspector General of Police, West Zone. But, police denied it claiming the IGP was busy with election work."I am also doing election work. The Election Commission of India did not give permission in many places and did not allow us to do our election work in many places. Such incidents should never happen and like you, I am also angry and anguished by the incident," he said.On Tuesday, BJP's C P Radhakrishnan visited CMCH where the girl's body was brought for autopsy. His visit was met with stiff resistance and he had to leave in a huff as her relatives, who were highly agitated , argued with him.
