Coimbatore: A 21-year-old college student , who was on the way to a theme park to celebrate his birthday along with his friends, was killed in an accident on Udhagamandalam Road near Mettupalayam on Saturday. A 22-year-old girl, who was riding pillion on his motorcycle They were identified as C Maniraj of Kavundampalayam and his friend Vinothini, daughter of Sekar of Rameswaram in Ramanathapuram district.Maniraj was a IIIrd year BE student in a private college and Vinothini was a final year MA (English) student in a private college at Malumichapatti. “Maniraj had invited his friends Vinothini, Venkatesh and Ramprakash to celebrate his birthday at a theme park at Mettupalayam. Maniraj and Vinothini were on a motorcycle and Ramprakash and Venkatesh were on another motorcycle. When they were passing through Udhagamandalam Road near Mettupalayam, Maniraj’s motorcycle crashed into a parking car. The duo was thrown away and a truck coming from the opposite direction ran over them. Maniraj, who was wearing a helmet, died on the spot. Vinothini died on the way to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital,” a police officer said,The bodies were handed over to their families after postmortem.
