Traffic chaos after approach road to flyover is closed

If the road is not ready by Monday, then thousands of motorists will struggle.”An official with the highways department said that the bridge was closed to carry out some minor maintenance work along the ramp. Coimbatore: Traffic came to a standstill under and around the Uppilipalayam Flyover on Sunday after the national highways wing of the state highways department closed an approach road to carry out maintenance work without prior notice.Motorists on the way to the Town Hall and Brookebond Road were forced to take the underpass, causing traffic congestion.Warning boards were placed only at the entrance of the ramp along Uppilipalayam Road, said S Vasundara, a commuter. “It will be opened for public use on Monday,” he said.The department has been reconstructing the parapet walls of the flyover and relaying the roads for three kilometres. The work is almost completed, the official added.
