In the fest, authentic yoga practices were taught through qualified teachers to the public for free of cost.Recently, full-time naturopathy yoga doctors were appointed in taluk level government hospitals. Yoga doctors are also available as consultants at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and Valparai and Pollachi government hospitals.“Yoga poses that were taught in the fest were simple and easy to grasp,” said one of the participants, T Sugunapreetha, 66, who had travelled from Pollachi to attend the sessions. The institute oversaw conducting the fest in the city.Only six districts, including Coimbatore, Hyderabad and Pune, were selected by the ministry to conduct the fest in the 2018-19 financial year.He said though many yoga centres are in the district, most of them are commercial and follow methods of either one of the yoga schools. Coimbatore: For the first in the state , the ministry of Ayush organized a three-day yoga fest in the city since Friday.The main aim of the fest was to educate the public about the benefits of yoga in preventing lifestyle diseases and sensitizing them about yoga therapy.“More than 200 people, including students and senior citizens, participated in the fest,” Dr D Sathyanath, senior medical officer, National Institute of Naturopathy in Pune, said.
