Ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s Tamil Nadu visit on Tuesday, around 60 people in Coimbatore were taken into custody for protesting against the prime minister and showing black flags, placards that read ‘Go Back Modi’.

A group of around 60 people, including 10 women, were taken into custody in Coimbatore on Tuesday for the black flag protest against PM Modi. The protesters raised slogans against PM Modi and showed black flags and placards.

The protesters showed placards that read ‘Modi against Tamil’ and showed images of PM Modi and Sri Lankan leader Mahinda Rajapaksa. The protesters also staged a road blockade after which they were removed by police officials.

On Tuesday, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu to campaign for BJP state president L Murugan.

The protesters said, “22 countries, including Britain and Germany, had supported the Tamils and had held Sri Lanka responsible for the war crimes. But the Indian government did not vote and walked out and this was a blatant support to Sri Lanka. This is a huge betrayal of the Sri Lankan Tamil people and Tamils here.”

“So many Hindu temples were destroyed and Hindus were killed in Sri Lanka during the civil war. This is an act of the BJP government against the interest of Tamils. We demand that Modi goes back and does not come to Tamil Nadu for the betrayal he has done against the people here,” said the protesters.

Ahead of PM Modi’s campaign in Dharapuram, farmers staged a protest against the PM over the three farm laws and demanded that the farm laws be withdrawn. The farmers’ protest was also to show solidarity for the protesting farmers in Delhi.
