Coimbatore among 15 districts with highest infection growth, positive rate (TPR) at an all-time high of 27 %

Coimbatore district added 2835 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, pushing the active cases tally past the 16,000 mark to 16,271.

If we talk about the districts of the country where new Covid-19 cases have increased in the last two weeks and the trend is continuing, Chennai, Chengalpattu and Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu), Ernakulam, Kannur, Mallapuram, Kollam, Palakkad (Kerala), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), Tumkur (Karnataka), Kolkata (West Bengal) and East Godavari (Andhra Pradesh).

The district`s total cases tally has mounted to 1,06,030.

The active cases tally has reached 16,271 after the district received more than 2600 fresh cases for the second successive day.

The district`s death toll stands at 824 after 13 people succumbed to the virus on Wednesday.

Among the deceased were a 34-year-old man without any comorbidities who died three days after testing positive, a 30-year-old woman who died a week after hospitalization and a 45-year-old-woman diabetic man who died within 24 hours of hospital admission.

The district recorded recovery of 1740 patients in a single day, a total of 88,935 patients have been recovered to date.

The test positivity rate is at an all-time high of 27% in the district, while the recovery rate stands at 83.8%.
