Coimbatore: 30 under treatment black fungus patients lose sight in one eye

The Health Department has made people aware that they should not ignore swelling in the eyes or face, redness in the eyes or pain in the teeth

A total of 30 undertreatment patients have lost sight in one eye out of the 264 patients suffering from Black Fungus in a government hospital in Coimbatore. A top official of the hospital gave this information on Sunday. Dean of the hospital Dr N Nirmala said in a press release that all the people admitted here had an endoscopy, out of which 110 had eye surgery but 30 very infected patients lost their sight in one eye.

He told that those patients who came for treatment in the early stages of the disease have been cured. The Health Department has made people aware that they should not ignore swelling in the eyes or face, redness in the eyes or pain in the teeth. The Dean said that people facing these problems should not avoid visiting the doctor or going to the hospital.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday appealed to the people to continue adhering to the COVID norms despite the decline in the number of coronavirus infections and easing of restrictions from July 5.
In a four-minute video released on Sunday, Stalin said the virus can be kept at bay if people follow COVID-19 protocols, such as wearing masks and distancing themselves.

Coimbatore district recorded 445 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Sunday. The active cases tally stands at 2,851 cases. Tamil Nadu added 3,867 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, taking the total cases to 24.96 Lakhs.

The cumulative death toll has reached 33,005 after 72 persons died of the disease on Sunday.
