COIMBATORE: Nearly two months after drought compensation was announced for them, farmers in Coimbatore say only a small section of them have received the money. They have sought details from the district administration on the fund and beneficiaries.Several farmers associations petitioned the district administration stating that only less than 25% of the farmers have received the compensation announced by the government. "We are also getting complaints of the funds going into certain farmers accounts but getting automatically debited by the bank as part of repayment of the loan or repayment of outstanding interest," said another farmer, R Balakrishnan . "In many villages like Kumutupally in Madukkarai, hardly two out of 100 farmers have received the money," said Karthik Krishnakumar, a farmer.Farmers claim that as the compensation is being distributed through electronic cash transfer , it is being deposited in nationalised banks where they have taken loans.
