On the western side of Dr. Nanjappa Road, from Park Gate Junction right up to the outstation bus stand, there are no street lights. In places where there are street lights, they don’t glow. The same was true of Park Gate Road as well, they add. From there till the Park Gate Junction there is no street light at all. On the southern stretch of Dr. Nanjappa Road, though, there are street poles and lights but they don’t glow.

Vehicle users want the Corporation to make temporary arrangements to light the Park Gate Junction in the city | Photo Credit: S_ SIVA SARAVANAN more-in Come evenings, the eastern end of Park Gate Road, the stretch of Dr. Nanjappa Road where the flyover work is under way, and the southern portion of the road that leads to Avinashi Road turn dark as there are no street lights. In places where there are street lights, they don’t glow. On the western side of Dr. Nanjappa Road, from Park Gate Junction right up to the outstation bus stand, there are no street lights. But thanks to the lightings in commercial establishments, the motorists do not face much of a problem driving through the area. That the road is also free of potholes adds to the road users safety. On the eastern side, though, the only street light that glows is the one that is attached to the transformer next to the Coimbatore Town Bus Stand. From there till the Park Gate Junction there is no street light at all. In fact, no street pole. Sources in the Coimbatore Corporation say that to facilitate the construction of the southern side of the flyover and development of the Park Gate Junction, the civic body had removed close to 20 street lights from the median. Likewise, the Corporation had also removed the street poles on the eastern side of the flyover as flyover builders had to construct a drain. The same was true of Park Gate Road as well, they add. On the southern stretch of Dr. Nanjappa Road, though, there are street poles and lights but they don’t glow. Sources familiar with the situation say that though the residents and traders had complained to the Corporation, they were yet to get relief. The absence of median and use of pre-cast concrete stones to divide the road only add to the problem. With goods carriers taking ‘U’ turns and the stones not visible in light, accidents have been frequent, the sources add. They want the Corporation to at least make a temporary arrangement to light the Park Gate Junction as only wet mix surface makes up for the road and dust from there diminishes visibility. Sources in the Coimbatore City Traffic Police say, they will soon talk to the Corporation in this regard. The Corporation officials say it is only a matter of time before the area is lit again. At present, the Junction development is in progress. Once it is over, the next will be street light. In another month or so, the place will be well lit.
