Drill held at airport

Airport Authority of India (AAI) conducted a drill at Coimbatore International Airport on June 20. Fire tenders and 10 ambulances reached the “crash site” within two minutes of recording the ‘Mayday Call’ at the airport and ‘Code Yellow’ at KMCH. ‘Injured persons’ were taken to the KMCH within ten minutes. As directed by Direct General of Civil Aviation, all licensed airports have to carry out full scale emergency drills once in two years. Around 200 members performed the drill.

The exercise was conducted in collaboration with State administration, Kovai Medical Centre and Hospitals (KMCH), the police, Fire and Rescue service, 108 ambulance, and agencies associated with aircraft movements. As directed by Direct General of Civil Aviation, all licensed airports have to carry out full scale emergency drills once in two years. Around 200 members performed the drill.
