Coimbatore: Demanding basic amenities, residents of Arul Nagar Garden located at Kanappan Nagar in Ganapathy area approached corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan on Tuesday to resolve their grievances. We have complained to the corporation officials, engineers and also to the district collector several times. But our area alone is neglected," he said.Meanwhile, corporation officials promised to inspect the area and take necessary steps. While the neighbouring areas have drains and regular water supply, we get water only once in 20 days. We will de-silt and clear the drains and resolve their grievances," said an official.

Coimbatore: Demanding basic amenities, residents of Arul Nagar Garden located at Kanappan Nagar in Ganapathy area approached corporation commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan on Tuesday to resolve their grievances. The residents petitioned him and complained about alleged inaction of officials."Our area is located in ward 45 of Coimbatore corporation. While the neighbouring areas have drains and regular water supply, we get water only once in 20 days. Apart from this, we do not get borewell water regularly," said Veera Bhadra, a resident.Selvam, another resident, said drains in the area are not even two feet deep and often overflowed into homes. "The monsoon has begun and sewage from the drains often enter our homes. The stench is unbearable. Several cases of dengue and other fevers have been reported from the place. We have complained to the corporation officials, engineers and also to the district collector several times. But, no action was taken," Selvam said.Officials are ignoring their plight as they hail from the lower strata of society, said Rajesh, another resident. "The neighbouring wards are well-maintained, cleaned and all facilities are provided. But our area alone is neglected," he said.Meanwhile, corporation officials promised to inspect the area and take necessary steps. "We have informed the ward engineer to inspect the locality on Wednesday morning. We will de-silt and clear the drains and resolve their grievances," said an official.
