Water level in Siruvani inches close to dead storage mark

Cincona and Chinna Kallar recorded over 100 mm rain and Valparai PAP and Valparai Taluk Office an mm or two mm short of the 100 mm mark. If the rain continued with the same intensity, the Corporation expected the water level to rise above the dead storage on Thursday or Friday. The Wednesday morning’s reading indicated that the water level rose up to 862.40 metre and the rainfall in the reservoir stood at 150 mm. This was for the second consecutive day that the rainfall had crossed the 100 mm mark, Coimbatore Corporation sources said. The reading on Tuesday morning recorded that in the preceding 24 hours, the Reservoir had seen 107 mm rain. The rain had also resulted in the water level going up from 12 feet below the dead storage level to three feet now. If the rain continued with the same intensity, the Corporation expected the water level to rise above the dead storage on Thursday or Friday. The hills on the district’s west also witnessed heavy rain in the 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. Wednesday. This forced the district administration to declare holiday for schools in Valparai for the second consecutive day.
