The civic body is looking for sources other than the Pilloor Reservoir for its new water scheme, called Pilloor III drinking water supply scheme. The Corporation officials said that the proposed Pilloor III drinking water supply scheme had nothing to do with the 24x7 drinking water supply project. The 24x7 was more about regulating water supply schemes in the city, they added. Currently, the Corporation has an in-take well in the Pilloor Reservoir and so does the TWAD Board. The Corporation had in 2012 passed a resolution in the Council for a third drinking water with Pilloor as the source to meet the needs of the rapidly-growing city.

more-in The civic body is looking for sources other than the Pilloor Reservoir for its new water scheme, called Pilloor III drinking water supply scheme. The civic body officials said the Corporation was in talks with the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board, Tangedco and State Government-owned funding agencies to explore where to place its intake well for the scheme. A joint delegation of officials from the aforementioned departments went to the reservoir and also places along River Bhavani a few days ago to study the feasibility and technical aspects. Once they take a call, they would submit a report to the Corporation, which would then use the same for preparing a detailed project report to implement the project. Until the delegation gave a report, it would be premature to comment one way or the other on the location of the intake well, they added. Currently, the Corporation has an in-take well in the Pilloor Reservoir and so does the TWAD Board. Each draw around 125 million litres a day from the reservoir, which the Tangedco uses for hydel power generation. The Corporation had in 2012 passed a resolution in the Council for a third drinking water with Pilloor as the source to meet the needs of the rapidly-growing city. The target for the scheme was the city’s projected population in 2048. The Corporation officials said that the proposed Pilloor III drinking water supply scheme had nothing to do with the 24x7 drinking water supply project. One was independent of other. The Corporation was in the process of closing the final bid for the project and waited for the 56-day mandatory window period to end. The 24x7 was more about regulating water supply schemes in the city, they added.
