Man robbed of 880 gm of gold jewellery in car

He chose to travel in a taxi car on shared fare basis from New Bus Stand on Mettupalayam Road. While waiting for bus to Udhagamandalam, a car halted close to the bus stand offering journey to the hill station on a shared fare system. A goldsmith from Telugupalayam Pudur, near Perur, was robbed of 880 gm of jewellery by a four-member gang, while he was travelling to the Nilgiris in a taxi on Monday. Easwaran had come to the bus stand on his two-wheeler around 10 a.m. and parked the vehicle in a private parking facility. As the car reached railway bridge near Onnipalayam, they snatched a handbag containing the gold from Easwaran at knife point.

The jewellery is estimated to worth around ? 8.85 lakh. The incident happened when Easwaran (47), was travelling to Udhagamandalam for delivering the ornaments to a jewellery shop there. He chose to travel in a taxi car on shared fare basis from New Bus Stand on Mettupalayam Road. Easwaran had come to the bus stand on his two-wheeler around 10 a.m. and parked the vehicle in a private parking facility. While waiting for bus to Udhagamandalam, a car halted close to the bus stand offering journey to the hill station on a shared fare system. There were four people including the driver in the car. While proceeding, the car was stopped at Press Colony where two passengers went out to attend nature's call. When they returned, they asked Easwaran to sit in the middle of the rear seat. As the car reached railway bridge near Onnipalayam, they snatched a handbag containing the gold from Easwaran at knife point. They dropped him at a deserted place after taking away his wrist watch, mobile, hip chain, and ? 900 too. The police have got visuals of a moving car suspected in the case from a surveillance camera of a shop on the route. The police said that the accused had also used a fake number plate. The Periyanaickenpalayam police have intensified search for the accused. Burglary Valuables worth around ? 98,500, including about 45 gm of jewellery were stolen from a house of Gunasekaran (61) a resident of Sree Srinivasa Nagar, near Pattanam Pudur, on Monday after overpowering him. He was alone at the house. Jewellery stolen Unidentified persons broke open the house of Solaiappan (63), a resident of Cooperative Colony near Uppilippalayam (Singanallur), and stole about 125 gm of jewellery on Monday. A retired employee of an NTC mill, Solaiappan was away from house when the incident happened. His wife and daughter were not at home. ‘Maoists’ examined Shyna and Veeramani, two of the five ‘Maosists’ arrested in 2015, were taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Tuesday for a few medical examinations.They are now lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
